Book Review: In My Boots: A Memoir of Five Million Steps Along the Appalachian Trail by Amanda K. Jaros

Amanda persevered and shared the many ups and downs of her life and her trail journey in a way that pulled this reader right along with her. Were there times she came close to quitting? (spoiler alert?) Yes. Were there times this reader wanted to quit? To be honest, yes. However, something about Amanda’s story and her own perseverance through conditions that would have stopped the hardiest hiker, kept this reader going. Her love of the trail and the love she discovered for her fellow hikers kept her going, and it is love that will see us all through the toughest times.

Was it worth it? Absolutely. If you decide to read this book and find your willingness to continue slagging, keep on, there are rewards ahead!

Her story offers support for the fortitude desperately needed in these tenuously troubling times. Something about Amanda’s honest portrayal of her doubts and disbelief that her trail or her life were going to get better kept me going and boosted my resolve to take one more step because in so doing we can attain our goals, whatever they may be.
